In Korean, what you call someone depends on who is older and on both of your genders. Pick your bias and enter your birthday to find out if you'd say oppa, unnie, hyung or noona — or if your bias would say it to you.
Koreans use family words for people who are a little older. Who says which word depends on the speaker's gender and the older person's gender.
| You are | Older person is | You call them |
|---|---|---|
| a woman | a man | oppa 오빠 |
| a woman | a woman | unnie 언니 |
| a man | a man | hyung 형 |
| a man | a woman | noona 누나 |
People born in the same year are usually friends, chingu (친구), and talk casually. Some people born in January or February go by the year above, because of how Korean schools used to start. We use the birth year here.
